inThe world’s leading art and antiques fair in Maastricht never disappoints you. This year the fair had a fantastic selection of 30.000 best fine art pieces displayed by 263 art and antiques dealers from 17 countries. The fair is not only about the best art and antique but also about the best atmosphere. Spending a week with the most elegant crowd, sipping champagne, networking with the best dealers and enjoying the atmosphere of luxury is worth of travelling every year to the Netherlands.

The best finds in the fair from interior designers’ perspective were classy Italian armchair from the 1950’s, Italian Art Nouveau white painted and carved wooden mirror, bohemian chandelier from the 1880 and very cute English Knole settee from early 17th century.

AAF The Affordable Art Fair New York City
May 6 – 9, 2010
The opening day of the fair and the private viewing on Wednesday the 5th was very busy. The queue to get in extended as far as 34th Street. After 45 minutes of waiting you finally got in. I don’t know if the waiting was worth it. Waiting that long doesn’t create a positive first impression. The hallways were full of art lovers, and also those in need of a free drink. However the idea of Will Ramsay’s AAF Fair which he founded originally in London in 1999 is great. The price ranges from $100 – $10,000 which enables anyone access to art.

From an interior designer’s perspective I did find a couple of interesting items which I hadn’t seen before. The most notable were:
High heel sculptures by Pep Guerrero: I found the shoes very funny and trendy, and a decorative idea for women’s dressing rooms. As the Sex and City 2 movie is on its way soon they should be a hit. The artist is represented by Cynthia Corbett Gallery in London.

Porcelain flower wall installations by Anat Shiftan: These delicious looking porcelain paintings would look nice in anyone’s summer house. The artist is represented by Anelle Gandelman Fine Art in New York.

Jellyfish fibreglass installations by Gwyneth Scally: These installations should look fantastic in a spa or beach house. Prices range from $3000 to $5000. The artist is represented by Divergence Fine Art in Baltimore.

Nervous Energy and Teddy Tower installations by Ross Bonfanti: The installations are made of metal, concrete and toy parts. The artist collects discarded toys and makes installations by mixing soft and hard elements together. Very cute for children’s room! The artist is represented by AWOL Gallery and Studios in Toronto.

Anyone who is anyone in the field of fine art were at art and antiques fair (TEFAF) in Maastricht in March. Soon coming who was there and who was not in our gossip site.
This year TEFAF will again had a record number of 260 exhibitors from 17 countries, introducing China and Uruguay. TEFAF also launched a new Art Market Report. It tells how the European art market has fared during the international economic recession from 2007-2009.
Damien Hirst art work , This Little Piggy Went to Market, This Little Piggy Stayed at Home, the pig sliced in half got a lot of attention. The asking price was $22 million. You can decide if it is too much to pay of a slice of pork or not.
